How do I know if my account was compromised?
Your account may have been compromised if you notice activity you didn't authorize, such as:
Your email address, password, or username was changed without your permission.
You received a password reset or account change notification you didn't request.
You notice login activity from an unfamiliar device or location.
Password reset emails are being sent to an email address you don't recognize.
Games were played, settings were changed, or other activity appeared on your account that wasn't yours.
If you still have access to your account, secure it immediately by changing your password.
How can I recover my account?
If you can still sign in
If you still have access to your account, change your password immediately and choose a strong, unique password that you don't use on any other website. Then, use 'Log Out on All Devices' in Account Settings to sign out of any other active browser sessions.
If you can't sign in
If you no longer have access to your account, you'll need to contact our Support team. If you're signed out, click 'Help & Support' in the bottom-left corner of the login page to start a conversation, then follow the steps below.
Open a conversation with our support assistant and click 'Start Conversation.'
Select 'Get more help' to skip the article search.
Type 'I think my account has been compromised and I can't log in.'
You'll be presented with different recovery options based on your situation, such as a changed email address, username, or other account access issues.
Follow the prompts to submit your request to our Support team.
Once your request is received, Support will review the information you've provided. If additional verification is needed, you'll be asked to provide more information or complete an account ownership verification step.

Once you've regained access, we recommend taking a few additional steps to help keep your account secure:
Change your Chess.com password to a strong, unique password.
Never reuse passwords from other websites.
