How do I find (or become) a chess coach?

 Many coaches offer instruction to all skill levels, often using our Analysis Boards in Live Chess for a fantastic virtual classroom experience.

If you are looking for a chess coach, you can browse and find one in our Coach Directory by hovering over Social and clicking Coaches:

If you're a coach looking for new students, you can set up a coaching profile from the directory. Just click on Apply under Get listed in the right-side menu:

You can also create an online store for your services on Chess.com in just a few minutes!


How to become a coach

1. Verify Your Account

  • Send a copy of your identification, like a driver’s license or passport to Chess.com, OR

  • If you’re a titled player, go through the normal Title Verification process, OR

  • Become a premium member by upgrading your membership and putting your real name and credit card information on file - The most secure, lasting way to verify your account.

2. Establish a Rating

  • Coaches must have an established rating from FIDE or a nationally recognized chess federation - All ratings will be verified by Chess.com.

3. Meet Additional Requirements

  • Have a clear, legible About Me section on your profile page.

  • Use a relevant, friendly avatar.

  • Maintain a record of being an upstanding, helpful member of our community.
