Game comments on Chess.com

Chess.com allows members to comment on games, much like other user-generated content such as blogs, articles, and forum posts. However, to prevent interference with ongoing games, our system protects the players until the game ends:

Game status

Details

Comments on a

game in progress

  • For non-players: You can view and leave comments on an ongoing game.

  • For players: You won’t see any comments while the game is still in progress, and you also can’t comment yourself. The same applies if you’re not logged in (i.e., viewing the game anonymously).

Comments on a completed game

  • All members can both comment and view the comments of others.

  • If a member is on either player's block list, they cannot leave comments.

New basic accounts start with limited features. Play games and post comments without images or links and these options will unlock over time!

How to disable notifications for game comments

If you don't want to receive notifications about comments on your games or games you have commented on, follow these simple steps to stop tracking them:

  • Open the game for which you want to stop notifications.

  • Click on the 'Comments' icon at the bottom of the sidebar on the right side of the page:

Analysis tab on a Chess.com game
  • In the comment editor, uncheck the 'Follow' box located in the bottom right corner:

Game comment section on Chess.com

This will stop tracking comments for that specific game, and you will no longer receive notifications about new comments.
