Having issues with the Chess.com app? Try reinstalling to fix login errors, crashes, or update problems on iOS and Android.

Updated this week

Many common issues, like login problems, can often be fixed by reinstalling the app. Sometimes, updates don’t install correctly or files get corrupted. Deleting and reinstalling the app is a quick and easy first step we recommend if you’re having trouble.

How to reinstall the Chess.com app

Android

Before reinstalling, make sure your device is running the latest version of the Android OS. See here for instructions on how to check or update your operating system: Check & update your Android version.

After ensuring your OS is up to date, please follow these steps:

  1. Enter your Android device’s settings, and navigate to 'Apps.'

  2. Locate and select the Chess.com app.

  3. Tap on 'Storage and Cache,' and then select ‘Clear Storage’ and 'Clear Cache' (this may also be labeled 'Clear App Data'). This step is crucial but often overlooked, so please don't skip it!

  4. Uninstall the app.

  5. Power your device off, then on.

  6. Reinstall the app from the Google Play Store.

iOS

Before reinstalling on iOS, please check that your device is on iOS 11 or higher. If your device is running a version lower than iOS 11, you will not be able to reinstall the app.

If you've confirmed that your iOS is up to date, please follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the app icon until it begins to wiggle.

  2. Tap the 'X' in the top right corner of the app to uninstall it.

  3. Reinstall the app from the App Store.
