How do I accept or decline a friend request?

Managing your friend requests on Chess.com is quick and easy, whether you’re using the website or the mobile app. Follow the steps below to find, accept, or decline friend requests on your account.

Web

  1. Hover over 'Social' on the left side menu of any Chess.com page and select 'Friends.'

  2. Click on 'Friend Requests' on the right sidebar to see all your pending friend requests.

  3. Here you can use the 'X' and check icons to either accept or decline the request. The sender will not be notified if you decline.

Mobile

On both the Android and iOS app, you can find your friend requests by tapping the bell icon at the top of your screen. If you have a new request, the bell will show a notification alert.

Tap the bell to see your pending friend requests. To accept a request, tap the check mark. To decline it, tap the X.

How do I control who can send me friend requests?

Web

Go to 'Settings' and select 'Social' from the left menu. Scroll to the 'Privacy' section and use the 'Allow friend requests' toggle to choose whether you want to receive friend requests or not.

Android

Tap 'More' from the bottom menu, then select 'Settings.' Open 'Social' and use the 'Allow friend requests' toggle to choose whether you want to receive friend requests or not.

This option is not currently available on iOS.
