Parental consent on Chess.com

At Chess.com, we’re committed to creating a safe and legally compliant environment for everyone, which is why we require users to meet a minimum age requirement to use the platform. When someone below that age creates an account, we reach out to their parent or legal guardian with a request to complete a parental consent form.

While we don’t ask for your birth date at sign-up, by creating an account, you confirm that you meet the minimum age required in your state or country of residence, as outlined in our User Agreement and Privacy Policy. For example, in the United States, you need to be at least 13 years old.

If you're younger than the minimum age required in your country, your parent or legal guardian will need to complete our Parental Consent Form found here.

Why is parental consent required?

Because users under the minimum age required in their country of residence cannot legally provide consent to the processing of their personal information on their own, a parent or guardian must:

  • Review and accept our User Agreement and Privacy Policy on the child's behalf.

  • Complete and submit the Parental Consent Form to grant permission for their child to use Chess.com.

This process helps us comply with child privacy laws and gives guardians a clear understanding of how their child’s information is handled. Without parental consent, access to Chess.com may be restricted or removed.
