What is Solo Chess?
Updated this week

Solo Chess is an exciting and engaging single player game that uses chess pieces without following the rules of chess like puzzles do. Instead, you can play with yourself using only knowledge of how the chess pieces move!

To get started, hover over More in the left menu, then click Solo Chess!

In Solo Chess, all the pieces are the same color, and any piece can capture the other. The main objective is to move the pieces so that they all capture each other, until only one piece remains.

Rules of Solo Chess

  • Every move must capture a piece

  • No piece may capture more than 2 times per puzzle (pieces that have captured twice will turn black)

  • If there is a King on the board, it must be the final piece

Example Puzzle

Here is an example puzzle:

In this puzzle, the solution is to move knight A to capture knight B on the side. Next, capture knight A with the bishop, then capture the bishop with the king!

If you move knight B first, then the bishop will be stranded and you wouldn’t be able to end with a lone king!

As the difficulty increases, more and more pieces are added to the puzzle, and you must navigate the maze of captures and find the path that leads to a lone remaining piece!
