Thematic tournaments are made up of thematic games which all start from a pre-defined starting position (such as three moves into a King's Gambit line, for example).

This allows players to play similar games and test each other in certain openings. Thematic tournaments are indicated with an icon on the Tournament page which says 'set position' and the tournament title will often say the position of the games:
