Welcome to our Friends & Family Plan FAQ page! Here you’ll find answers to the most common questions about how to get started, invite friends or family, and manage your plan. Whether you’re just considering signing up or already enjoying the benefits, we've got you covered!

1. What is the Friends & Family Plan?

The Friends & Family Plan allows up to four Chess.com members to share a Diamond yearly membership, giving everyone on the plan access to our highest-tier Premium features at one low price. One person signs up as the Primary Account holder and can invite up to three others to join as Secondary Accounts. Everyone in the plan enjoys the full benefits of a Diamond Membership —just as if they subscribed individually.


2. What features do members of the Friends & Family Plan get?

Everyone on a Friends & Family Plan will be upgraded to our Diamond Premium plan, giving them access to unlimited Game Review, Puzzles, Lessons, Bots, Insights, Move Explanations, and more…all with no ads!

3. How do I sign up for a Friends & Family Plan?

To sign up for the Friends & Family Plan:

  1. Visit the Friends & Family Page on Chess.com (web only)

  2. Click the 'Sign Up' button

  3. You’ll be navigated to the checkout page

  4. Add your payment method and complete checkout

  5. Once done, you’ll be prompted to add other people to your Friends & Family Plan.


4. Does the Friends & Family Plan include a free trial?

Yes! If you are eligible for a Premium free trial, you can start one with our Friends & Family Plan.


5. Can I sign up for the Friends & Family Plan on iOS or Android?

No, at this time you can only sign up for the Friends & Family Plan on web. But Friends & Family Plan members will enjoy Diamond benefits on all web, iOS, and Android.


6. How do I invite someone to my Friends & Family Plan?

As the Primary Account holder:

  1. Navigate to Settings on web and select Membership/Payment

  2. Select Add Member (if all 3 spots are taken you will not see this option)

  3. Either:

    1. Enter the email address or username of the person you want to invite; or

    2. Click on 'Copy Link' and share the link with someone.


7. How do I accept an invite to a Friends & Family Plan?

Click on the invite link or invite email sent to you from the Primary Account and follow the directions.


8. How do I remove someone from my Friends & Family Plan?

Only the Primary Account can remove members from their Friends & Family Plan. To do so:

  1. Navigate to 'Settings' on web and select Membership/Payment

  2. Find the member you want to remove and select Remove Member

  3. Click 'Yes' on the following prompt to immediately remove them.


9. What if I already have a Premium Membership?

If you already have a Premium membership and want to become the Primary Account holder of a Friends & Family Plan, you can easily upgrade through the Friends & Family Page on Chess.com. Your existing plan will be updated, and you'll be billed accordingly. Any remaining balance from your individual plan may be credited toward your new plan.

Note: existing Premium members cannot be added to a Friends & Family Plan as a Secondary Account.


10. Who can I add to my Friends & Family Plan?

You can add almost anyone to your Friends & Family Plan, with a few exceptions:

  • Existing Premium members cannot be added to a Friends & Family Plan.

  • In a few countries, you can only invite members who live in the same country. If this restriction applies to your country, you will be notified during the checkout process (before you check out).


11. How long does someone have to accept a Friends & Family Plan invitation?

Friends & Family invitations will expire after 72 hours. If this happens, you can easily send another invite to someone’s email or generate a new invite link from the Membership section in your Settings area.
