Can I take back a bad move?
Can I take back a bad move?
Updated today

Would you like to take back a move during a game? You can—but only if you’re playing a 'Takeback' game in Daily Chess. In Live Chess, takebacks aren’t available.

How to create a takeback game

💡 Takeback games are always unrated and provide a great tool for learners and those willing to act as guides.

  • Click 'Play' in the left side menu, and select 'Play' from the appearing menu

  • On the 'New Game' screen, click on the time control box and select a Daily game from the drop-down

  • After you've chosen the time control for your daily game, click on 'Custom'

  • Make sure the 'Rated' toggle is off to see the 'Allow Takebacks' option.

  • Toggle 'Allow Takebacks' and click 'Play' to find your match or send your challenge!

How to use the takeback feature

In a takeback game, the 'Take Back Move' icon (curved arrow) appears under the move list:

Either player can request a takeback at any time:

  • If it's your move, clicking 'Takeback' will undo your opponent's last move, returning the turn to them. (You might use the chat feature to suggest an alternative move.)

  • If it's not your move, clicking 'Takeback' will undo your last move, making it your turn again.
