How to block a member on Chess.com
If you've had a negative interaction with another member, blocking them can help ensure a safer, more comfortable experience by preventing any further contact.
Here's how you can block a member:
Visit the profile of the member you wish to block.
Click the three dots in the upper-right corner of their profile page and select 'Block' from the dropdown menu.
To unblock them, just follow the same steps—the 'Block' button will now appear as 'Unblock.'
If the member is currently on your friends list, you'll need to unfriend them first. After unfriending, the option to block will appear.
How do I report and block someone?
You can also report and block someone at the same time. This can be done either from their profile or from anywhere else on the site.
From their profile
Follow the same steps as above, but select ‘Report’ instead of ‘Block.’
In the report window, choose the reason for your report.
Check the ‘Block’ box at the bottom of the form and then ‘Report’ to submit the report and block the user in one step.
From anywhere on the site
Click the member’s username to open their profile preview window.
Click the three-dot icon under their avatar.
Select either ‘Report’ or ‘Block’ depending on what you want to do. If reporting, follow the steps above to complete the report and block the member.
What happens when you block someone?
Once you block a member, they will no longer be able to:
Send you messages
Send you game challenges
Send you a friend request
Be auto-matched with you in open seeks
Join tournaments you are running
Post in any content you have created
