How do I put a game or puzzle in a forum post?
Updated this week

At, one of our many features includes the ability to insert your own games or puzzles into forum posts and blog posts. This can be a fun way to give daily puzzles to your club or to initiate discussions about a specific game. Here's how you can do it:

Inserting Games or Puzzles

First, locate and click the game board icon in the option bar above the text box on a forum or blog post. This will direct you to a game board where you can add your own game or puzzle.

Once on the game board, you will find several options listed on the right side. These options allow you to customize and personalize your game or puzzle.

Add a Game

If you want to add a game or a series of moves, there are two options available for you:

Make the moves

You can simply grab the pieces and start making moves on the board. Your moves will be recorded and displayed on the board. Once you've completed the sequence, click on the 'insert' button at the bottom right corner. This will add the sequence to your post for others to view and interact with.

If you want to provide additional information about the game and players, you can do so in the Details tab.

Use a PGN or URL

Alternatively, you can add the entire game by loading a PGN or a URL of a game already played online. The options for loading a game or FEN are found on the right side of the board. You can also add a game using the URL for that specific game.

Add a Puzzle

To create a puzzle with a solution that others can solve by moving the pieces themselves, click on the 'setup position' button on the game board. This will open a menu that allows you to customize your puzzle.

To add pieces, simply drag them onto the board. You can also remove pieces by dragging them off the board on the right side. To clear the board, click on the 'trash' icon.

Once you've set up your puzzle, click on the 'moves' button and play out the moves that will solve your puzzle. When you reach the final position, click on the 'Theme' menu and check the 'Puzzle' box. This will set your diagram as a puzzle, allowing others to move the pieces and have Black respond accordingly.

If you don't click on the 'Puzzle' box, the diagram will only show all the moves for others to click through.

The 'Theme' menu also allows you to customize the type of pieces and the board's color. Once you're satisfied with your settings, click on the 'insert' button to add the puzzle to your post.

Please note that there are advanced settings available, such as the option to enable en passant capture or choosing who has castling rights. If you need assistance with these settings, check out our article on using the analysis board.

After adding a game or puzzle to your post, you can continue writing and submit it. Others will be able to interact with your game or puzzle by clicking on the board and making moves themselves.
