What are thematic games?

Thematic games start with the first few moves of a specific opening already made. These games are set up this way by whoever creates the game, club match, or tournament.

For example, if you were playing a King’s Indian Attack thematic game, the game would start with the opening moves:

1.Nf3 d5 2.g3

To create your own thematic game, click 'Custom' on the Play menu:

Then, click where it says 'Standard' and change it to 'Custom Position / Odds'

The default choice is 'auto balance' for an odds game. Click there, and change it to 'Book Opening':

From here you will be able to select from a list of openings which one you want your game to start with:

Once you've made your choice, simply click play to send your challenge, or continue to make other choices such as challenging a specific opponent.

Custom position games are unrated.
