How to open a chat window
Hover over 'Social' in the left menu of any Chess.com page and click the 'Chat' tab.
You'll see a list of your active chats —Click on a friend's name to open the chat window and continue your conversation.
If you haven’t chatted with someone in a while, the chat will move to the 'Inactive Chats' section. Click on it to view all your previous conversations.
How do I start a new chat?
If you haven’t started a chat with a friend yet, hover over 'Social' in the left-side menu on any Chess.com page and click 'Friends.' Then, hover over your friend's name and click the speech bubbles ('Chat') icon next to it to open a chat window.
How do I create a group chat?
To start a group chat, hover over 'Social' in the left-side menu and click 'Chat.' Then, click the ‘+’ icon to open a new chat window at the bottom-right corner of your screen.
Use the search box to search for and select multiple users to include in the chat. As long as you add more than one person before sending your first message, it will become a group chat—letting you add or remove members later.
If you start the chat with just one user and send a message, it becomes a private one-on-one chat, and you won’t be able to turn it into a group chat later.
How do I use the chat window?

Click the smiley face in the lower-right corner of the chat window to see the available emojis
To close the emoji window, click the 'X' at the top right corner of it or press the 'Escape' key.
How to manage the chat window
Once your chat window is open, simply type your message in the text box. The chat window will stay open on your screen even if you navigate to other areas of Chess.com or play a game.
Click '_' to minimize the chat window or 'X' to close it. Your messages will still be there when you reopen the chat.
