How to disable the chat on Chess.com

While playing a game, you can adjust your chat settings by following these steps:

  1. In your game, click the three dots next to the emoji icon at the bottom-right of the chat box.

  2. In the pop-up, choose 'Game Chat.'

  3. Select your preference:

    • Allow chat from everyone

    • Require a chat request from your opponent

    • Allow chat from friends only

    • Or toggle off 'Game Chat' to disable chat in all games.

Alternatively, you can also manage your chat settings from the Social Settings screen, under the 'Chat & Messaging' section

You can change these settings at any time. The changes will also apply to the Chess.com mobile apps.


How do I disable the chat on the Chess.com app?

You can disable chat entirely on the apps for both Live and Daily games. Here's how:

Android

  1. Tap on 'More' from the menu at the bottom of the homepage.

  2. Select 'Settings' and tap 'Social.'

  3. Tap on 'Allow game chat' to set your preference: Alwyas, Friends Only or Never.

iOS

  1. Tap on 'More' from the menu at the bottom of the homepage.

  2. Select 'Settings' and tap 'Play.'

  3. Tap 'Allow Chat' and then select your preference: Alwyas, Friends Only or Never.
