How to find a game to watch on Chess.com

One great way to improve at chess is to learn from the pros! And one good way to do that is to watch them play. Here's how to do it:

Web

  • To watch a live game, hover over 'Play' on the left menu and select 'Play'

  • Click on the 'Games' tab and select 'Watch' on the new game screen. Here you'll see the top-rated games being played or any special event games being relayed

  • Click on any game on the list to watch. You can turn on evaluation and lines to see what the engine has to say about the position and chat about the game with anyone else watching.

  • If you get tired of the game, click on the X in the corner of the 'Watch' tab to close the window:

How to watch a friend

To see if your friends are playing, click on the 'Players' tab, then click on 'Friends.' You will see a list of your friends and the people you follow who are online. Click on anybody who has the status of 'Playing' and watch their game!

You can also open anyone's profile and see on their profile page if they are playing a game, then click to watch.

Mobile

  • From your home screen, tap 'Watch' in the bottom menu. There, you can watch streamers, ongoing games from top players, and ChessTV!

  • Tap 'Playing Now' to see the full list of who is currently playing:

    • The 'Top Players' tab shows games being played by top-rated players

    • The 'Friends' tab shows if any members on your Friends list are playing.

    • The 'Tournaments' tab displays any ongoing tournaments you can watch.

  • To watch a game, simply tap on it, and you'll be taken to that game's screen. You can watch the game as it's played and join the chat with other viewers.
