The game ended and my rating didn't change at all. Why?

Rating changes on Chess.com

There are a few reasons why your rating might not change after a game ends:

Unrated games

Unrated games do not affect your rating, no matter the outcome. To check if your game was rated or unrated, click the 'Info' tab on the right sidebar.

During a rated Daily game, you can see a preview of the rating change by clicking 'Rating Adjustment.'

The game was aborted

Games can be aborted for several reasons, such as:

  • One player aborts

  • A server restart

  • Both players disconnect

Aborted games have no effect on ratings and do not appear in your Game History. It will be as if the game never started.

Games vs. Bots

Games against Bots or Coach personalities are always unrated, so your rating will not change regardless of the result.

Daily games ending before four moves

In Daily Chess, a game is not considered started until four moves have been made.

If the game ends before the fourth move (by timeout or resignation), no rating change occurs. However, checkmates in under four moves do affect your rating.

If you resign from a Daily Tournament that already started, your rating will still change even if no moves were played.
