Rating range

If you're unable to challenge a friend to a game and receive a message like the one below, it means they have set a specific rating range for who can challenge them, and your rating falls outside those parameters. No worries—your friend can easily update their settings by following the steps below.

  1. Click 'Settings' in the bottom left corner of any Chess.com page, and select 'Gameplay' from the left-side menu.

  2. Scroll down to the 'Challenges' section, and toggle 'Ignore rating settings for friends' challenges.'

  3. A checkmark will appear, confirming the change has been applied!

The option to 'Ignore rating settings for friend challenges' is currently unavailable on the Chess.com apps. However, your friend can still adjust their rating range to include yours if needed. Here's how:

  1. Tap 'More' at the bottom of your screen and select 'Settings.'
