Puzzle Points
Puzzle points make solving puzzles more exciting and rewarding through challenges and incentives to improve your chess skills.
Unlike the regular puzzle feature that focuses on ratings, puzzle points let you track your progress using a points-based system. You earn points for each puzzle you solve, and as you collect points, you advance through different levels and climb up the tiers.
How do I enable Puzzle Points?
Web
Puzzle Points mode is currently available to all users on the mobile apps but not yet accessible to everyone on the website.
Click on 'Settings' in the bottom-left corner of any Chess.com page and select 'Puzzles' from the left side menu. Here you can toggle 'Collect Puzzle Points' on or off to your liking. Don't forget to click 'Save' to apply changes!
Additionally, if you'd like to see your Puzzle rating while earning points you can toggle on 'Always Show Rating.'
Once Puzzle Points mode has been enabled, you can go to the Puzzles page to see your points progress bar, right under the Coach!
Your current points are displayed above the bar.
Your streak is shown underneath it.
To the right, you'll see the next tier level you're progressing toward.
Click the 'Leaderboard' icon in the top-right corner to view your friends' Puzzle Points progress. Hover over their points in the right-side column to see their current level, tier, and prestige level (if applicable).
Mobile
Tap 'Puzzles' from the menu at the bottom and select 'Solve Puzzles.'
Tap the 'Settings' icon at the top right corner of the screen to bring out the settings pop-up menu.
Toggle 'Collect Puzzle Points' and tap 'Save' to apply the changes.
If you don't want to see the timer, make sure to toggle off 'Show Timer.'
On Android, you can also enable the 'Always Show Rating' option to view your Puzzle Rating alongside your Puzzle Points.
This will show you your puzzle points, current puzzle tier, level, streak, current points, and points needed to move to the next level.
Tap on the puzzle piece at the top center of the screen to view your current position in your puzzle journey and see where your friends are.
If you'd prefer not to see your Puzzle Points, follow the same steps and toggle off the Puzzle Points mode.
Tiers and points system
As you move along the Puzzle Journey on Chess.com, you’ll go through eight different tiers: you’ll start at the Wood tier and work your way up through Stone, Bronze, Silver, Crystal, Elite, Champion, and finally, Legend tier.
Each tier has 20 levels, each presenting new challenges as you improve. The point requirements for advancing to the next level increase with each level and tier.
Points breakdown for each tier
Points are awarded based on the difficulty of the puzzles and your progression through the tiers. Here’s a breakdown of the points given for different puzzles at each tier:

Additional point bonuses
Each puzzle has the potential for different amounts of points based on:
Daily bonus: Earn bonus points by solving three puzzles correctly each day. The daily puzzle quest is completed once you solve three puzzles accurately.
Streak bonus: Earn points for consecutive correct puzzles. Streaks start from the second consecutive correct puzzle.
Personal Record bonus: Earn bonus points for each new personal record for the hardest puzzle solved.
Milestone bonuses: Earn bonus points for achieving puzzle milestones (like solving 200 puzzles!)
Speed bonus: Earn bonus points for solving puzzles quickly.
You will know when you’ve received bonus points and how many by looking at the animation on your board:
Prestige
When you begin your puzzle journey, you start with a simple green pawn marking your progress through the tiers:
After completing all the tiers, you will be notified you have prestiged and your pawn is upgraded to match the style of the next league, such as a Stone pawn if it's your first time going through all the tiers:
As you continue through the tiers with the Stone pawn, you eventually advance to a Bronze pawn, and so on, until you reach the Legend pawn!
