FAQs

Will I be charged if I cancel before my trial ends?

No, you won’t be charged if you cancel before the 7-day trial period is over. Click here to learn how to cancel your membership.

I selected a free trial, but I was charged immediately. Why?

Chess.com free trials are generally available only once per eligible account. If you've already used your free trial, starting another membership will begin a paid subscription immediately instead of another trial.

If you believe you were charged in error, see: How can I get a refund for my Chess.com membership?

This is different from canceling an active free trial before it renews. If you're currently within your 7-day trial, you can cancel before it ends to avoid being charged.

Can I get a refund if I decide to continue with a paid membership?

All first-time buyers benefit from a 30-day refund guarantee. So, if it's your first time purchasing a membership, you’re eligible for a full refund within 30 days if you're not satisfied.

Why do I need to enter payment information for a free trial?

A payment method is required to verify your account and help prevent abuse of multiple free trials.

You won't be charged as long as you cancel before your 7-day trial ends.

Can I get another free trial?

Each eligible account can receive one 7-day free trial. If you've already used your trial, you may not be eligible for another one on the same account.

I canceled my trial, but I was still charged. What should I do?

First, confirm that your cancellation was completed before your trial ended. If you still believe you were charged incorrectly, contact our Support Team.

If you don't cancel before your 7-day trial expires, your membership automatically renews as a paid subscription. To avoid being charged, cancel your trial before it ends.

I thought I was only starting a free trial, not purchasing a membership. What should I check?

Review your checkout confirmation, your app store subscription details (if applicable), and your Chess.com membership history to confirm whether a paid subscription was created.

If you believe you were charged by mistake, follow the steps in How can I get a refund for my Chess.com membership?
